Exploring beautiful Architecture

If you read the post I just made, you know I spent today meandering around a local college that is filled with beautiful Frank Lloyd Architecture with my Art History class. Here are some of the more fun shots of today.

 {The walkways are very short due to the fact that Frank Lloyd Wright stood just above 5'2 as a grown man!}
{We had just missed the fountain going off, but this giant pool was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright as well and it is breathtakingly beautiful when the fountain is going}

Frank Lloyd Wright Architecture

As some of you may know, I live in Lakeland, Florida and we're privileged enough to have the largest concentration of Frank Lloyd Architecture in the world at a local college named Florida Southern College. I've always noticed the beautiful buildings but not until I took Art History did I actually begin to appreciate art & architecture in general as well as the chapels that Frank Lloyd Wright designed. Today my Art History class took a quick field trip to the college to look at the chapels and it was wonderful. I managed to take quite a few pictures and even managed to squeeze in a few OOTD pictures thanks to the wonderful Amelia Madden.

{This is the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel. The original interior Frank Lloyd Wright designed himself had no electricity and the only source of lighting was the natural light from the tiny stained glass openings as well as an open area in the top of the Chapel (which the school has closed with a glass cover so the space isn't open)}

{I love the intricate concrete work here in the chapel}

{If the college hadn't installed small lights in the building this would be the main source of light within the structure. Mr. Wright was very fond of having his buildings interact well with the natural elements (look at his masterpiece FallingWater)}

{I went around lunch time and the natural light was shining in so beautifully I couldn't resist taking all these pictures}

{I loved how the stained glass pieces were not perfect square cutouts but rather this interesting shape throughout the walls}

{These are the stairs from the Danforth Chapel that Frank Lloyd Wright also designed. I love the deep rich red color of these stairs.}

{How beautiful is this stained glass? I die}

{The mix of perfect and nonperfect square forms blend beautifully}

{Even the trees are beautiful at Florida Southern College!}

Memorial Day Weekend Recap

I had the most wonderful Memorial Day weekend. The past few days were spent with friends and family out on the water as we enjoyed the three day weekend. I didn't really dress up much over the holiday weekend so I thought I would share a little about what I was up to. What exciting things did you do over the three day weekend?

{I spent Saturday with two of my best girlfriends and we had a breakfast date and went back to one of their houses and took her boat out for the afternoon}

{Jumping off their dock was too much fun!}

{Sunday night Patrick and I went out to dinner with my parents. My dress is BCBG Max Azria and my shoes are Tory Burch}

{Monday we took my boat out on Lake Harris and spent the day tubing and swimming! We stopped for lunch and docked our boat at a nearby restaurant. It was tons of fun!}

Rain, rain, go away

             It is raining AGAIN today in Florida and it doesn't look like it's going to stop
anytime soon. I'm not going out to brave this weather anytime soon {rainy movie day anyone?} so I thought I would put together a little set for if I was headed out to bear the rain.
